Angelo Biondo, 93, a longtime journalist in the Chicago Daily News sports department, died Jan. 29 in Chicago.

Biondo started as a copy boy in 1928. During baseball games, he would go by boat to the newspaper's printing plant off the Chicago River and, from the sixth inning, he would update Chicago Cubs and White Sox box scores constantly so that people leaving the park could pick up a paper with complete box scores.

Biondo took courses at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism to become a writer.

Biondo eventually became a reporter, copy editor, night sports editor, columnist, award-winning handicapper for thoroughbred races and bowling specialist.
