Some of The Knoxville (Tenn.) News-Sentinel's editorial staff tried to withhold their bylines
in protest to ongoing contract negotiations, but the paper's management ran the names anyway,
Metro Pulse Online reports.

Staff requested a byline strike for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday editions, Metro Pulse
reports. And despite the old contract which stated, 'An employee's byline should not be used
over his/her protest,' the News-Sentinel publisher went ahead and published them.

Managing Editor Lara Edge defended the paper by arguing that disputes could only be over
editorial content.

Contracts between management and staff have been in negotiation since the last one expired in
February 1998.
