Calif. 'Record Searchlight' Gets New M.E.

Posted
By: E&P Staff Carole Ferguson joined the staff at the Record Searchlight in Redding, Calif., as managing editor on Wednesday. She succeeds Greg Clark, a 31-year veteran of the paper, who left in September to be the assistant to Redding City Manager Kurt Starman.

In a report in the paper today, Ferguson said that after spending her first month getting to know the area, she will guide the daily news coverage, focusing on local news. She also plans to act as liaison between the Record Searchlight?s employees, from publisher to editors to reporters.

Ferguson began her career as a copy editor and page designer at the Modesto (Calif.) Bee. Since then, she has worked as a reporter, managing editor, and editor-in-chief at several different papers. Most recently she served as news editor for the Ventura County (Calif.) Star, another E.W. Scripps Co. publication.

?Carole is a skilled and seasoned pro who cares about community journalism,? said Record Searchlight Editor Silas Lyons in today's report on the paper's site. ?She also knows exactly what it takes to get the news out every day and has proven in Ventura that she can run an efficient, fast-moving operation. I think Carole is a great fit for our staff and will be an asset both to the paper and the community.?
