'Carthage Press' Names New Managing Editor

By: E&P Staff Longtime newspaper reporter John Hacker has been named managing editor of The Carthage (Mo.) Press, effective immediately.

"I?m very flattered by this opportunity," Hacker told the Press. "We have a great staff and a unique opportunity to provide the citizens of Carthage with unparalleled coverage of this community." As part of his duties, Hacker will direct the paper's five-person editorial staff.

News Reporter Kevin McClintock was also promoted, to assistant editor, and will help Hacker oversee the paper's daily operations. Hacker told the paper that McClintock "brings special management skills to the paper and a writing style I think people have enjoyed reading."

Hacker has been at the Press since March 2007, when he returned to the paper as a staff writer. This is Hacker's third stint at the paper, having previously served as sports editor in 1995, and lifestyles editor in 1998. In between stints in Carthage, Hacker has worked at papers across Missouri and Kansas. His most notable stop was in Joplin, Mo., where he was first a reporter for the Joplin Globe, then as editor of the Joplin Daily, a start-up weekly newspaper and Web site that was shut down in 2007.

McClintock has worked for Gatehouse Media, the parent company of The Press, since 2001. He has worked for six newspapers in three states, including the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas, of Fayetteville, Ark., and the Joplin Globe.
