'Cathy' Spoofed by SNL Crew

By: E&P Staff Leave it to Andy Samberg to take "Cathy" from the comic page to "Saturday Night Live."

This weekend, in a new episode that featured Jessica Biel and boyfriend Justin Timberlake, Biel played Jessica Rabbit, while Samberg portrayed the title character from Cathy Guisewite's syndicated strip "Cathy? and Timberlake played her adoring husband Irving.

Irving proclaims his love for Cathy, saying, "I swear on Charles Schulz himself, if Jessica Rabbit walked in here right now I wouldn?t even blink."

Biel then walks in dressed as Jessica Rabbit wearing a tight red dress, and long purple gloves, asks Irving to take a walk, and he immediately accepts, saying to his girlfriend: "Sounds good, later fatty."

SNL spoofed the comic strip characters after a recent survey from Cadbury Daily Milk ranked the sexiest cartoon characters -- leaving Cathy off the list.

Check it out, here.

"Cathy" is syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
