'Chicago Defender' Gets a New Home

Posted
By: (AP) After 85 years as a South Side institution, the Chicago Defender is relocating to high-rise headquarters in the Loop.

Editor Roland Martin says the newspaper's staff will move Jan. 10 to the 17th floor of the 21-story Borg-Warner building at 200 South Michigan Avenue.

Since 1956, the century-old newspaper has occupied a 40,000-square-foot Art Deco building on Automobile Row at 2410 South Michigan Avenue.

Martin says the current building is too old and too large. He says the move will save the paper thousands of dollars.
