Chicago Public Media announced the appointment of Andres Lombana as senior vice president of sales and sponsorship. Lombana, who brings more than two decades of leadership experience spanning local media, business development and the technology sector, will oversee the organization’s Advertising and Sponsorship teams across its expanding portfolio of brands, including the recently-announced public platform chicago.com.
Lombana’s career has focused on building sustainable revenue models that strengthen journalism while creating value for audiences and advertisers alike. At Tribune Publishing, he led the transformation of Hoy into a digital-first, multiplatform local news organization serving Chicago’s Spanish-speaking communities, and later helped expand Tribune Content Agency’s reach by developing strategic partnerships with organizations, including Amazon and Samsung News.
Earlier in his career, Lombana founded an Emmy Award-winning production company serving clients such as Coca-Cola, MillerCoors, Univision, Telemundo and the Chicago White Sox. Most recently, Lombana helped build partnership and business development capabilities at Lenovo and Motorola Qira, working across product, legal and commercial teams to create new opportunities at the intersection of technology, content and consumer experience.
Lombana joins Chicago Public Media as the organization continues to expand its audiences and invest in sustainable revenue models across WBEZ, the Chicago Sun-Times, Vocalo and chicago.com, its first brand designed specifically for digital audiences.
“Chicago Public Media was built by Chicagoans to serve Chicagoans. As we continue to reach new local audiences, we must develop new ways for advertisers, sponsors and community partners to engage with them through experiences that are useful, trusted and aligned with our mission,” said Chicago Public Media CEO Melissa Bell. “Andres’ deep experience at the intersection of journalism and advertising will help us meet people where they are while building lasting relationships that strengthen both our impact and our long-term sustainability.”
