By: E&P Staff Agfa Graphics announced today that the Chicago Sun-Times has purchased nine Advantage CLS computer-to-plate systems, along with Arkitex workflow components that include both Autoplan and Afirma for increased monitoring and automation.

The Advantage CLS system features simple internal design that requires less maintenance, helping minimize costs and downtime. Its violet-laser diode's expected lifetime of more than seven years also helps hold down costs.

The a cassette-loading system with 220-plate-per-hour throughput can be configured for multiple plate sizes without requiring customization, and can use different plate sizes on a day-to-day basis.

Arkitex Afirma is a process-control solution that maximizes productivity via an easy-to-use monitoring system that ensures plate quality. Arkitex AutoPlan automates the entire printing process, saving time and increasing efficiency through automatic set-up of editions, pages, colors and plate positions. It also defines the target production, checks for press compatibility, and ensures that the right plates are produced at the right quality at the right time.
