'Clifford' Promotes Newspaper Reading

Posted
By: Sonya Moore Continuing its tradition of using characters from movies, television shows and books, the Newspaper Association of America announced that its latest literacy campaign will feature characters from Scholastic's TV shows "Clifford's Puppy Days" and "The Magic School Bus."

Clifford makes his second appearance in the series with a Valentine's Day-themed ad showing Clifford and his human friend Emily Elizabeth reading the newspaper together inside a large heart shape.

Both ads feature the tagline: "It all starts with newspapers." They're available in two-column, quarter, half and full-page sizes. The ads also come in color or black-and-white, and for standard and 50-inch web formats. Each is available for download on the NAA's Web site at www.naa.org/display/clifford and www.naa.org/display/magicbus.

The NAA is a nonprofit organization representing the newspaper industry and more than 2,000 newspapers in the United States and Canada. Readership and public policy are two of the association's six strategic priorities. The ad series promotes reading through newspaper readership to children, young adults and their parents.

John E. Kimball, NAA senior vice president and chief marketing officer, said that in same way the shows featured in the recent ads connect with children through characters and stories, newspapers connect with young people through sections designed for them. "Reading these sections together can be a significant learning and bonding experience for parents and children," he said.
