By: Staff reports Photo Staff Gets Nikon D1 Cameras
Community Newspaper Co. (CNC), of Needham, Mass., has gone digital by
equipping its entire photography staff with Nikon
D1 professional digital cameras.
CNC, which publishes 88 weekly newspapers, 15 shoppers, and one daily
in the Boston area, says it selected the Nikon D1 because it provides
2.7 million pixel resolution and the ability to shoot 4.5 pictures per
second when necessary. The digital cameras, which handle and respond
like standard film cameras, allow for immediate transmission of images
without the waiting time to process film.
'With the new Nikons, we will be able to edit photographs as they are
taken and to transmit them via LAN or wireless technology directly to
the layout desk,' said John Walker, photo chief for CNC's Northwest
Newspaper Group. 'In a very time sensitive business, this technology
will allow us to deliver the most current and immediate visual coverage
to our readership.'
CNC says its digital camera purchase is the second largest by a
newspaper organization, behind only the Associated Press.
CNC also publishes the Web site Town Online.
