The Committee to Protect Journalists has called on Serbian authorities to protect reporters after a campaign marked by physical attacks, threats and obstruction. Its Oct. 23 statement addressed both the Oct. 25 parliamentary election and the period afterward, urging investigations and access for local and international journalists.
CPJ documented incidents involving seized phones, damaged equipment and reporters prevented from covering campaign events. It also cited threats against journalists and their families and published safety resources for those covering the election’s aftermath. The organization urged police to protect journalists’ ability to document events.
