By: E&P Staff The Reading (Pa.) Eagle Co. purchased a computer-to-plate system from Southern Lithoplate to support its upcoming conversion from flexo to offset printing, changing over from NAPP flexographic plates to Viper 630 thermal plates.
To support the conversion, the Eagle bought two plate-production
lines consisting of a Screen PlateRite 2000LE platesetter and CA
Systems Egraph Polyheat 33 processor, with workflow managed by ProImage Newsway, which will furnish ink-density settings to the press interface.
The CTP system will be used in conjunction with a KBA Colora offset press, built for the Eagle's new Beriner format and scheduled to go on line this month.
The Southern Lithoplate CtP Alliance solution was chosen because "it offered the best fit relative to our needs," Eagle Production Manager Mike Engle said in a statement. "We are expecting that improved registration coupled with direct plate exposure will deliver superior quality for both our newspaper and commercial print products."
