By: E&P Staff In need of more space after having hired one person per month over the last year-and-a-half, Dario Designs Inc. is slated to move into larger quarters next July.
Now based in Framingham, Mass., the architectural and consulting firm specializing in newspaper facilities and operations broke ground last week for a 15,000-square-foot facility on property it bought in nearby Marlborough.
Dario Designs now has 32 full-time employees and is looking to have almost 40 by next summer. "We would be 40 today if we could find the people. We're turning down work," said Dario Designs President Dario DiMare.
Just returned for his firm's groundbreaking ceremony from a project meeting in San Pedro Sula, in northwestern Honduras, while Hurricane Wilma was gathering force nearby, DiMare left on Monday for another project meeting in Naples, Fla. -- the time and place that Wilma made landfall.
The company said its new headquarters is to be designed in accordance with the Golden Section, Fibonacci Principal, and Mondrian color scheme that ties in with its corporate image.
The golden section, a proportion (1.618:1, or Phi) is associated with the Egyptian pyramids, the Parthenon on the Acropolis, arithmetician Leonardo Fibonacci, Leonard Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Swiss architect Le Corbusier, and nature itself.
Dario Designs said use of balancing proportion reflects the architectural profession, and Mondrian's balance of color (compositions in the red, yellow, and blue primaries) reflects the newspaper industry it serves.
"We wanted to marry our profession with our client's," DiMare said in announcing the project. "Balancing architectural proportions [the golden section] and balancing red, yellow, and blue [CMYK] on white paper with black lines [Mondrian] pulls the two professions together."
