On one of its biggest circulation days -- the Sunday after the Kentucky Derby -- The Courier-Journal in Louisville was unable to print or deliver the vast majority of its Sunday edition with its 20-page special Derby section.
The newspaper said electrical problems in the printing press halted production Saturday.
Subscribers received only the preprinted sections of the newspaper on Sunday. The A-section, Metro, Sports and the Derby section will be delivered with Monday's paper, Chris Apel, vice president of finance and operations, said on the newspaper's Web site Sunday morning.
About 43,000 copies of the newspaper were run off the press and delivered to subscribers in parts of the state before the problems occurred, the newspaper said.
The other section of the paper were being printed at The Indianapolis Star Sunday.
Single copies of the full Sunday Courier-Journal were expected to be available in stores and newsracks Sunday afternoon.
The Courier-Journal made its free electronic replica of the Sunday paper free.
