The second of six unions in Detroit approved a three-year contract this week, settling a five-year-old labor dispute for 200 press operators at the daily newspapers, The Associated Press reports.

The press operators ratified the new contract that is set to expire on Jan. 15, 2004.

Members of the Graphic Communications International Union Local 13N that work for Detroit Newspapers Inc., the joint business agency for the Free Press and News, could get 2% yearly salary increases and a possible $3,000 in bonuses if circulation goals are met.

Three more units of the Newspaper Guild, representing 500 newsroom and maintenance workers, are scheduled to vote on a new contract this Sunday.
