'Detroit Free Press' Reporter Faces Deposition Over Sources

By: A former terrorism prosecutor wants to know who leaked information to a Detroit newspaper reporter for a story about an internal ethics investigation in 2004.

After resisting for months, David Ashenfelter of the Detroit Free Press is scheduled to attend a deposition Monday in Ann Arbor.

The interview is not part of a criminal case. Richard Convertino is seeking information for his civil lawsuit against the U.S. Justice Department. He claims his privacy was violated when information inside the agency was leaked to Ashenfelter.

In October, Ashenfelter's lawyers said he wouldn't reveal his sources. Two federal judges have refused to stop the deposition.

Ashenfelter's past work includes stories that led to a Pulitzer Prize for public service for The Detroit News in 1982.
