'EarthTalk' Column Now Has Spanish Version

Posted
By: E&P Staff E-The Environmental Magazine is launching a Spanish-language version of its weekly "EarthTalk" column.

"We're making special efforts with 'EarthTalk' to reach out to communities most often marginalized from the national environmental debate," E Publisher and "EarthTalk" Editor Doug Moss said in a statement. "More often than not, the people downwind of toxic waste dumps and chemical pollution are Spanish-speaking residents, African-Americans, or similarly economically-disadvantaged groups.

"As a result, Hispanic-Americans and African-Americans suffer from exposure-related health problems -- such as asthma -- at alarmingly high rates well above the national average."

The column -- which is distributed to more than 600 newspapers, Web sites, and other outlets -- answers reader questions about recycling, global warming, rainforests, genetically modified food, and other topics. Accompanying the answers are Web site addresses and contact information.
