By: Staff Reports Two Newspaper Competitors To Create Auction Site

Web giant eBay joined classifieds giant AutoTrader yesterday to create a new
online auction site, http://www.ebay-autotrader.com. Both companies are well
known to newspapers. eBay recently launched local auction sites while
AutoTrader LLC's print products compete with newspapers in some markets.

eBay also says it will make a cash investment in AutoTrader, which is said to
be considering an initial public offering. AutoTrader claims 5 million visitors
per month while eBay claims 10 million members.

Before the venture, eBay was just beginning to build its own used car auction
service.
