Whether reporting on the most challenging construction projects or the latest trends in green building or technology, ENR maintains its reputation as the construction industry’s most trusted and indispensable media brand. Some of ENR’s milestones include:
A weekly publication for most of its existence, with a current print frequency of 20 issues per year, ENR is one of the oldest continually published magazines in the U.S. Today, ENR also publishes hundreds of articles, analysis, viewpoints and data online , along with podcasts, videos, webinars and holding more than a dozen live events.
Since 1964 its company rankings have brought a significant degree of transparency to an industry dominated almost exclusively by private companies. Its cost indexes measuring fluctuations of building material and labor costs are benchmarks widely used by thousands of contractors and municipal agencies.
ENR’s Award of Excellence, presented annually to someone who has made an exceptional contribution to best serve the construction industry or the public, is one of the industry’s highest honors.
“Our team of highly skilled editors and writers — some of whom have worked for the brand since the 1970s — continue to deliver news, opinions and data that the construction industry needs to do their jobs profitably, safely and more equitably,” says Scott Blair, editor-in-chief.
ENR originated as two separate publications. One was called The Engineer & Surveyor when it started publishing in 1874. By the next year it was named Engineering News. In 1911 it was purchased by John A. Hill. The second publication was originally called The Plumber and Sanitary Engineer, and started publishing in 1877. By 1890 it was called Engineering Record. In 1902 it was purchased by James H. McGraw. After several decades as competitors, the two publications merged in 1917 to become Engineering News-Record. Since 2015 ENR has been owned by BNP Media.
ENR reaches more than 440,000* people around the world each month through its website, print and digital editions and newsletters and 140,000* more through social media and other platforms.
