England's CN Group Selects Polopoly Publishing Platform

By: E&P Staff Swedish content-management system vendor Polopoly was chosen to supply the new publishing platform for CN Group, Carlisle, England, which publishes seven local newspapers, including The Cumberland News, News & Star and North West Evening Mail.

One reason for the selection is that the system is "already proven to reliably deliver stable services at far higher traffic levels than we currently experience," CN Group Digital Development Director Stuart Cooke said in a statement. "This will remove the traffic bottlenecks our customers experience when accessing our sites at peak times."

Cooke noted that with the Polopoly system, instead of placing calls to IT or new media staff, editorial will have the online publishing tools to make small changes to pages. The system also will facilitate editing and managing sites, sharing content among them, and will be used to create localized editions of the newspapers' Web sites.

Other features will include instant user metrics, improved communication with readers, and tagging of articles and comments on articles.

CN Group's Publishing Division is responsible for the Group's newspaper publishing and associated activities in Cumbria, Northumberland, northern Lancashire and Scotland. It produces two evening dailies, five paid-for weeklies, and a range of free papers, directories, magazines and niche publications. It also has a new-media business, and each paper has its own Web site.
