By: E&P Staff For its new Montreal and Toronto production plants, Quebecor Inc. has selected mailroom systems from Ferag, Zurich, Switzerland.
The choice was based on equipment speed and accuracy and "integrated controls to tie the entire post-press operation together," according to Nolin Richard, vice president of corporate production, distribution and procurement at Quebecor's Sun Media group.
By early summer, Ferag will begin installing at each site three UTR gripper conveyors, three MultiDisc DiscPool automated buffering systems; MultiSert Drum inserting systems (each including two Preprint Unwinders and RollStream feeder positions); six MultiStack stackers; Six tie line conveyors (each consisting of top-sheet printing and application systems, bottom wrappers, and strappers); one PKT bundle distribution system with telescopic truck loaders; palletizer, waste-handling system; post-production control system.
Press conveyors will deliver directly to the stackers or to the buffer systems, which allow either winding preprints for later insertion or buffering to accommodate equipment speed differences when running live from press to inserter.
Each inserting line will have two preprint unwinders and be able to insert as many as 24 preprints.
