Finalists Named for Alt. Weekly Awards

By: E&P Staff The Colorado Springs Independent, SF Weekly, L.A. Weekly and Orlando Weekly led the way with five nominations each for Alternative Newsweekly Awards this year. Winners will be announced June 25 at the 27th annual convention of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies in San Antonio, Texas.

Several reporters, including Donna Ladd of the Jackson Free Press, Hillary Johnson of the Ventura County Reporter, Bob Norman of the New Times Broward-Palm Beach, Jeffrey C. Billman of the Orlando Weekly, Dave Schimke of the City Pages and Terje Langeland of the Colorado Springs Independent, were nominated in more than one category.

In the Media Reporting category, nominated in the under-50,000 circulation group are Jeffrey C. Billman, Orlando Weekly; Joe Piaseki, Pasadena Weekly; and Justin Park, Syracuse New Times. For over-50,000, it's Dave Schimke, City Pages (Twin Cities); Tali Woodward, San Francisco Bay Guardian; and Eric Wemple and Josh Levin, Washington City Paper.
