First Goss Universal 50 for Thailand

Posted
By: E&P Staff Bangkok-based Kilen Printing Co. Ltd. ordered a shaftless Goss Universal 50 press. The order was placed in response to its contract titles' higher volume requirements and will be the first Universal 50 press in Thailand.

Kilen Printing now uses five Goss Community press lines to print a range of newspapers and magazines. Among its clients are daily sport newspapers and weekly sport magazines for Siam Sport Syndicate.

The new, 50,000-copy-per-hour press will be configured as three four-high Universal towers, a 1:3:3 jaw folder, and five reelstands. Equipped with motorized ink keys and circumferential and lateral register controls, it will print 24-page tabloids in four colors or 40-page tabloids with 16 full-color pages.

Installation of the Universal 50 press, scheduled for May 2006, is timed to coincide with the FIFA World Cup in Germany, and the inevitable surge in sports newspaper circulation figures.

The press purchase is part of a larger expansion plan for Kilen Printing. "We have recently purchased land where we plan to build a new printing plant. At the rate that we have grown as a company over the last 10 years, expansion of our premises was inevitable," Kilen Printing Managing Director Molee Wanaratananont said in a statement.
