Florida Printer Runs ECRM WorkMates News

By: E&P Staff WorkMates News workflow products from ECRM in Tewksbury, Mass., has been adopted by full-service commercial cold-web printer FLP of Callahan, Fla., which prints many weekly newspapers, as well as shoppers, flyers, circulars, magazines, booklets, mailers and other tabloid and half-tab products for other firms.

With sales revenue up more than 20% in the past five years, FLP now draws business from as far west as Missouri and east Texas, and as far north as New York.

Introduced last fall, the software automates the process of downloading, renaming, RIPing, sorting and pairing pages, then outputting them to film, plate or even as 1-bit TIFFs. Pages are automatically paired while a job is still being RIPed.

Owner Mark Thompson notes, At FLP, WorkMates News "preflights each file automatically and finds any errors," owner Mark Thompson said in a statement.

"A very common error is that images will be in RGB format, instead of CMYK," he continued, "Or, spot colors need to be converted to CMYK or black. The software can fix these automatically, as well as resolving any other problems with the file." The software even sends the company's presets to the Quickset software that produces the printouts used by the pressman as a guide for ink-fountain color adjustment. "Time-savings just add-up."
