By: A western Pennsylvania man shot to death before his apartment was set on fire was a former newspaper executive and grandson of the founder of a major steel company.

Police believe whoever killed 75-year-old William McMichael Jones also stole the man's car and set fire to his apartment early Tuesday morning. Police Chief John Berger says Jones was found shot in the head when crews extinguished the fire.

No suspects have been named or charged.

Jones is the grandson of the founder of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. He also worked for the Tribune-Review Publishing Co. in Greensburg from 1972 to 1988. From 1983 to 1988 he was president of the company, which publishes the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and several other western Pennsylvania newspapers.
