Forum Communications Visiting Another KR 'Orphan' Today

Posted
By: E&P Staff In their third tour of Plains states newspapers put up for sale by The McClatchy Co., Forum Communications executives are scheduled to visit the offices and plant of the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald Friday, the newspaper reported.

The story by staff writer Kyle Johnson quoted Herald Publisher and Editor Mike Jacobs as confirming the tour by representatives of Forum, publisher of the Fargo (N.D.) Forum and more than two dozen other daily and community papers in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Forum CEO William Marcil and other executives of the family-owned company earlier this week toured the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune, and Aberdeen (S.D.) American News, two other so-called "orphan" papers that McClatchy has decided not to retain in its acquistion of Knight Ridder inc.

The Herald story noted that a sale to Forum would put North Dakota's two biggest paper under a single ownership.
