By: Hundreds of people are expected to turn out when Oakland journalist Chauncey Bailey is laid to rest today.
A funeral Mass for Bailey is set for this morning (11:00) at St. Benedict's Church in Oakland.
The 57-year-old Oakland Post editor was shot and killed in the city's downtown last week.
Meanwhile, the man police believe gunned down Bailey remains behind bars after his first court appearance.
Devaughndre Broussard (deh-VAHN'-dray BROO'-sard) did not enter a plea during yesterday's appearance. He told the judge he wanted to hire his own attorney.
Broussard -- who is being held without bail -- is due back in court Monday.
The 19-year-old Broussard was 1 of several people arrested last Friday in raids on the bakery and other locations.
Oakland police say Broussard has confessed to the murder of Bailey, but investigators don't think he acted alone.
