Gannett Consolidating Two N.J. Papers In Same Location

By: Joe Strupp Two of Gannett's six New Jersey newspapers will soon share the same home, according to The Star-Ledger of Newark, which reported The Courier-News of Bridgewater and the Home News Tribune of East Brunswick will be housed in one location.

"The two papers would continue to publish separately," the paper reported. "But the newspaper chain plans to sell the Courier-News property on Route 22 within the next few years, and house both news staffs in a single building as a cost-saving measure."

The report added that Gannett indicated a change might occur last week when Ketan Gandhi, publisher of the Home News, was appointed to the same post at the Courier-News. Later in the week, staff members at both papers were briefed about some changes to come.

"Even though they were both part of Gannett, (the two papers) didn't take advantage of stories or resources that could have been combined to give a bigger impact," Gandhi told the Star-Ledger. "Now the walls have come down."

Gandhi said the company's Bridgewater property, "a valuable parcel of land" a short distance from the Bridgewater Commons mall, is not up for sale yet. Printing operations were shifted to other Gannett locations as of last week, however, the paper reported.
