GateHouse Buys 11 'Messenger' Papers

By: Newspaper publisher GateHouse Media Inc. said late Tuesday that it is purchasing 11 Messenger Post newspapers from Canandaigua Messenger Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

The newspapers include the Daily Messenger, which serves Canandaigua in the Finger Lakes Region of northwest New York, and ten weekly newspapers serving the suburbs of Rochester, N.Y. They have a combined paid and free circulation of about 100,000.

"This acquisition fits extremely well with our strategy of acquiring dominant local media franchises that are accretive to free cash flow per share," GateHouse Chief Executive Michael Reed said in a statement.
