GateHouse Closes Two Mass. Weeklies

By: E&P Staff GateHouse Media Inc. folded two Massachusetts weeklies with their final editions this week.

In a note to readers, Mark Olivieri, the publisher of one of the papers, The Taunton Call, said the "tough decision was reached after considerable evaluation."

He noted that GateHouse publishes The Taunton Daily Gazette in the market. "By no means should this announcement be interpreted as meaning we will no longer cover local news in Taunton," Olivieri wrote.

The Avon Messenger was also shuttered.
