By: Mark Fitzgerald A Goss International spokesperson Friday denied that CEO Bob Brown had "hinted" at the elimination of the Mercury printing press model line, acquired as part of the purchase of Heidelberg's web press and post-press divisions.
E&P reported that in a question and answer session after Brown's speech to the International Newspaper Group annual meeting in Milwaukee Thursday, the CEO "hinted" that Heidelberg's Mercury press would probably be dropped in favor of Goss' Community, the best-selling printing press ever. "The Community is a very strong product line," he said. "We're very happy with that product line." The story went on to report Brown's comment that decisions on dealing with "overlaps" in the Goss and Heidelberg press lines would be made in the next 90 days.
"Absolutely no decision has been made on continuing or discontinuing products," said Goss spokesman Greg Norris. "The real message from Goss is that they're looking at all products and the mixing and matching of (printing technologies). So it's not necessarily a question of either/or in terms of continuing or discontinuing products."
