By: E&P Staff Goss International, Bolingbrook, Ill., has enhanced its 4- to 12-page Universal and 8- to 24-page Uniliner press models.
New features available for the presses include semi-automatic plate changing, automatic web-width changing, enhanced dampener control, configuration options for more compact and user-friendly press lines, and ergonomic restyling. Sinapse interactive training simulators also are now available as an option.
In the Goss T90 configuration, reelstands and printing towers are rotated through 90 degrees on a single floor, creating "a more compact press that can be operated with a smaller crew," Eric Normand, senior vice president and general manager of the Goss facility in France that builds the Uniliner and Universal, said in a statement. "The addition of specially designed Uniflex turner bars at the top of each tower on Uniliner press models also provides a simpler solution to web-width changes and ribbon positioning," said Normand.
Complementing the new features are a range others, such as the optional Goss DigiRail system, which enhances inker accuracy and consistency by feeding a stream of digitally measured ink pulses onto the ink rail. Originally designed for application to Universal and Uniliner presses, the DigiRail inker contributes to their flexibility. Having a fully enclosed manifold with a small volume eliminates ink contamination and speeds switching between coldset and heatset inks.
Goss shipped nearly 500 Uniliner and Universal printing units in 2007. Singlewide Goss Universal presses are available in one-page- and two-page-around configuration that print at up to 80,000 copies per hour. One- and two-around Uniliner models are available in web widths up to 74.8 inches in triple-wide (six-pages-across) format.
