IFJ Plea: Peruvian Journos Need Aid

Posted
By: E&P Staff The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is asking journalist unions worldwide to contribute support for Peruvian journalists and their families who have been made homeless by the recent earthquake.

IFJ sent a 3,000 Euro contribution from its Gustl Glattfelder Fund, which is dedicated to supporting journalists who are victims of natural disasters. The fund is named after a former chair of IFJ's European Federation who
died two years ago.

The National Association of Peruvian Journalists (ANP) appealed for
international support as reports from the quake's center in the Pisco district revealed the magnitude of the impact on journalists and other media workers.

"Our colleagues tell us that a number of journalists have been devastated
by the earthquake," IFJ President Jim Boumelha said in a statement. "Their homes have been destroyed and their families are at severe risk."

Further information about the fund for Peruvian journalists is available on IFJ's Web site.
