Instagram is testing videos of up to 90 minutes with select U.S. creators, expanding its ambitions beyond short clips. The format, called “Features,” supports longer programming such as interviews, podcasts and vlogs, Social Media Today reports.
The U.S. test began Oct. 26 following earlier testing in Brazil. Instagram is also expanding “Clips as Reels,” which allows creators to link up to eight short Reels to a longer video, helping audiences move from a preview to the full program.
For news publishers, the test offers a potential new outlet for extended interviews and video journalism while using short clips to attract viewers. Access remains limited, however, and publishers should not assume the format is available to every account or will deliver revenue comparable to YouTube.
