By: E&P Staff Knight Ridder announced on Wednesday that it has acquired two free distribution recruitment publications in San Francisco and Dallas -- Jobs and Careers and DFW Job Connection, respectively -- and the auto publication DFW Auto Connection.

Jobs and Careers is a 20-year-old publication distributed in San Francisco, the Peninsula, and the East Bay. Allen Hardwicke, general manager, will remain with the publication. Owner Mike Mainiero will work with Knight Ridder to help Jobs and Careers grow.

DFW Job Connection publishes three zoned weeklies and DFW Auto Connection is a glossy publication that features higher-end cars. Former owners Sandra and Rick More will not stay with the company.

"Advertisers will benefit from the combined strength of these recruitment titles, Knight Ridder's investment in the CareerBuilder online platform, and the reach of the classified sections of our daily newspapers," Greg Goff, Knight Ridder general manager/targeted publications, said in a statement.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
