Appeal comes as lawyers try to shorten the typically long pretrial process for Americans detained in Russia

Lawyers for Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich have appealed a Moscow court’s decision to extend his pretrial detention until at least Aug. 30.

The appeal, filed Thursday, May 25, comes as lawyers try to shorten what has typically been a drawn-out pretrial legal process for Americans detained in Russia.
