LOS ANGELES TIMES REWORKS FRONT SECTIONS

The Los Angeles Times on Sunday introduced a reorganized
paper that adds more pages to Section A for national and
international news in the daily paper.

The Tribune Co. paper has renamed its Section B as "California"
and will include news of the state, region, and local areas. With
the break-out "California" section, two more pages will be
devoted to national and world news everyday in Section A.

"We believe that local and regional news is close to the heart of
a newspaper, even a national newspaper like the Los Angeles
Times," said John Carroll, editor at the daily. "With these
changes, the Times offers readers what no other newspaper
can provide -- Southern California's only truly region-wide news
report.

"We will cover a particular local region with great depth and
seriousness and, at the same time, give a broader context to it
by covering Southern California and state news in the same
fashion," Carroll said in a press release.

The "Metro" section will get additional space for regional and
local news as well. With more space in all these sections, more
analysis will be combined with the news.

The Times said that the layout and design will be more
consistent throughout the two expanded sections for easier
accessibility by the readers.
