By: E&P Staff McClatchy has named David G. Fitzpatrick II as vice president for strategic initiatives for its interactive division. Most recently, Fitzpatrick was vice president of sales for McClatchy Interactive and general manager of Real Cities. McClatchy sold national online network Real Cities to Centro for an undisclosed sum in August.
In his new role, Fitzpatrick, 41, will develop vertical and niche sites.
"It's clear there's a tremendous opportunity to provide local readers with a richer online experience by creating niche and vertical Web sites that combine our local experience and content with national brands and content," Christian Hendricks, vice president of interactive media at McClatchy, said in a statement. "We are confident advertisers will also benefit greatly from better targeted advertising opportunities."
Fitzpatrick has been with McClatchy since 2006. Prior to joining the Sacramento-based chain, he was managing partner of Vasari Communications, a company that specializes in wireless PDA technology. He was also an executive with IBM.
