Media General Hires New VP for Interactive

By: E&P Staff Media General has named Peter E. Howard vice president for content and design for its Interactive Media Division, effective immediately. Howard was most recently the news and special projects team leader at Media General's TBO.com, a position he had held since 2000.

At TBO.com, Howard was responsible for the daily news operations, along with coordinating online news projects and converged coverage with its partners, The Tampa Tribune and WFLA News Channel 8.

"We are pleased that Peter's creativity and experience in convergence will be leveraged across all Media General sites," said Neal F. Fondren, president of Media General's Interactive Media Division. "Peter has a keen sense of being able to use interactivity to convey news and information in dynamic and compelling ways."

Since the spring of 2001, Howard has been an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida, assisting in teaching a course on multimedia journalism. Before moving into online news, Howard worked at The Tampa Tribune from 1995 to 2000 as a reporter. A graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., he moved to Florida in 1995 after working at the Providence (R.I.) Journal-Bulletin, the Cape Cod (Hyannis, Mass.) Times, and at Foster's Daily Democrat in Dover, N.H.

Media General's interactive assets include more than 50 online enterprises that are associated with the newspapers and television stations the company owns, many of which are located in the Southeastern United States.
