By: Jay DeFoore Media General's interactive division saw a 55.8% increase in October revenue compared to the same month in 2004, the company announced today. Total interactive revenue for the month was $2.3 million, a new record.
The growth was fueled by a 55% increase in classified advertising, led by employment products, and a 29.8% increase in local advertising. The record figure also reflects revenues from the company's new Spanish-language Web site,
CENTROtampa.com, which launched in September, and advergaming and advertising revenues from Blockdot, Inc., which was acquired in July 2005.
The $2.3 million factored into the company's overall revenues of $92.6 million, down 7.8% from October 2004.
Media General's publishing division revenues increased 2.2% for the month while broadcast revenues dropped 23.3%, which the company attributed to the absence of political advertising.
In the publishing division, help-wanted and real estate advertising in most markets helped fuel a 7% increase in classified advertising revenues, or 9.3% when online is included.
