Media Rules for Courts-Martial

By: The Associated Press (AP) Media regulations for Wednesday's court-martial of U.S. Army Reserve Spc. Jeremy C. Sivits and arraignments of three other soldiers:

* Radio and television broadcasts of court proceedings are prohibited.

* Cameras, recording devices and mobile phones are barred.

* A pooled court artist will produce images for the media.

* A pool transcriber will produce a transcript for news organizations.

* Court stenographer transcripts will not be available during or immediately after the court martial.

* Thirty-four international news organizations will be allotted seats in the courtroom. They include several of the largest U.S. newspapers and broadcasters and nine Arab newspaper or broadcast journalists.

* Other media organizations will have space in a closed-circuit television room.

* Reporters must remain silent while in the courtroom and anyone who fails to do so will be removed.

* Following the trial, a public affairs officer will deliver a press statement and a legal officer will be available for a backgrounder on the legal processes. But individuals involved in the proceedings, such as attorneys, witnesses, the judge, jury or the defendant, will not be available for interviews.
