MinnPost Launches Real-Time Ads

Posted
By: E&P Staff Local news upstart MinnPost has launched real time ads with feeds that feature Twitter-like immediacy.

Zachary M. Seward of Nieman Journalism Lab spoke with MinnPost founder Joel Kramer about the innovative new advertising approach. "Real-Time Ads," Seward wrote, "could appeal to marketers that already have Twitter accounts and blogs where they're reaching out to customers, and MinnPost is hoping that the feature will become a destination site the way the classifieds section used to be treasured by the newspaper."

MinnPost runs the ad feed down the left hand side of the homepage.

Kramer told Nieman Labs that he hopes the new concept will bring in revenue that is not tied to traffic like banner ads.

For now, the ads are free but there are plans to charge less than $100 a week.
