By: E&P Staff The Princeton (Ind.) Daily Clarion and The Public Opinion in Watertown, S.D., both Page Co-op members, have implemented Kodak production workflow systems.
Brehm Communications' 6,070-circulation Daily Clarion installed the Kodak Newsmanager workflow system with page pairer software, the Kodak Prinergy Evo workflow system, and Kodak Preps imposition software to drive its new Kodak Trendsetter News 50 thermal platesetter with Kodak PF-N non-process plates. In addition to its flagship paper and one other daily, the Daily Clarion's pressroom prints eight weeklies, 15 broadsheets, 30 tabloids, saddle-stitched books, and other publications. It also handles various commercial print jobs.
"Kodak's workflow offerings help us save time and reduce errors at every step in the prepress process. For a shop like ours that produces so many different types of publications, the automated imposition capabilities of Preps software has really helped us reach greater levels of efficiency," Daily Clarion Systems Manager Mark Crowley said in a statement.
At the 12,181-circulation Public Opinion, Publisher Mark Roby chose Kodak workflow and CTP solutions partly as a result of feedback from a nearby newspaper. By running similar systems, the newspapers can back up each other. The Public Opinion added Prinergy Evo, Preps, Kodak Staccato screening, and a Trendsetter News 70 platesetter.
The system from Kodak also moves jobs through a commercial sheetfed operation in the newspaper's production facility. Advanced, second-order FM screening, Staccato facilitates consistent production of high-fidelity, artifact-free images with fine detail, according to Kodak.
Other recent Kodak installations included Trendsetter News 70 platesetters at The Merced (Calif.) Sun-Star and newspaper printer K.K. Stevens Publishing Co., Astoria, Ill.
