By: E&P Staff The Morris Digital Works division of Morris Communications Co., in Augusta, Ga., acquired the media services assets of automotive retail software provider The Cobalt Group.
Morris Digital Works (MDW) is building a software solution, mdTransit 1.0, to which it plans to transition Cobalt's existing media services customers. Morris said mdTransit will provide additional features and functionalities "inherent to Morris Digital Works classified advertising technology and will leverage Cobalt vehicle inventory data-collection services."
Announcing the acquisition Monday, Morris Communications President William S. Morris IV said that joining MDW and Cobalt resources "will undoubtedly produce innovative solutions within the classified advertising and automotive fields." The acquisition "gives us the opportunity to offer a complete suite of classified and automotive capabilities," said Morris Digital Works President Michael R. Romaner. Features of mdTransit will include dealer inventories, expanded search tools, consumer guides, car configurators, expanded automotive content and exportable data. "By implementing the capabilities of mdTransit, MDW will empower media companies to extend their reach into the online automotive space," Romaner said.
Contextual searching with unlimited variations allows MdTransit users to find the most relevant matches. Work is under way on the next version of mdTransit to enhance existing features. Romaner said version 2.0, slated for release by next spring, will increase "functionality and flexibility for the consumer, the advertiser and the media company."
