MRE Confab Kicks Off Thursday

By: E&P Staff The Military Reporters and Editors' fourth annual convention is slated to kick off Thursday in Washington, D.C. The conference, called ?The Long Hard Slog: Covering the Iraq War at Home & Abroad,? is scheduled to run through Oct. 22.

David Halberstam will deliver the keynote address during the Oct. 21 luncheon. Additionally, MRE announced that the head of the National Guard Bureau, Lt. Gen. Steven Blum, is a panelist for the discussion of Hurricane Katrina and the role of the media.

Other sessions scheduled:

Shooting the messenger. Is the media telling the full Iraq story?

Coming home. How will the media shape public perception of the largest group of combat veterans since Vietnam.

Tales from longtime wars. Veteran war correspondents share their combat experiences, tearing down myths.

Combat fatigue. How journalists can cope with stress and multiple trips to the war zone.

This is war! Photojournalists and videographers bring the war home and to the MRE conference.

Tech war. From blogs to Web casts, how does new technology shape news and reporting?

Nuts and bolts. Ten stories you can do right now to cover the war on terrorism.
