By: E&P Staff Optical register systems and plate automation systems supplier Nela Brueder Neumeister GmbH in Lahr, Germany, with a subsidiary in Oakdale, Minn., has acquired the entire product range of OMCS Optical Measurement GmbH, Dessau, Germany, developer of optical surface-inspection systems for rubber, polymer and ceramic parts.

"This combination of know-how in the areas of machine building and optical inspection technology for 2D and 3D applications allows for an enhancement of Nela's technological leadership in its traditional markets newspaper printing, web commercial and sheetfed printing, Nela President Frank Neumeister said in a statement.

The companies' co-operation over the past 12 months had led to the launch of several projects, including optical color-register systems for closed-loop control on press cylinders and paper webs.

Former OMCS president Klaus Widmann is now optical inspection systems director at Nela. OMCS sites at Dessau, Germany, and Wuxi, China, have been integrated into Nela's sites, and "leading personnel" were offered jobs at Nela.
