By: E&P Staff The Journal News in White Plains, N.Y., promoted Tom Donovan to executive vice president. Anthony Simmons was named vice president of circulation of the Gannett-owned paper.
Donovan was most recently vice president of advertising. In his new role, he is responsible for the operations of the advertising, circulation, and distribution departments.
Donovan has been with Gannett since 1987 and has held advertising positions at the papers in Wilmington, Del., Rockford Ill., and Indianapolis.
"Tom is one of the company's most experienced executives and has a proven track [record] in competitive markets like this one," said Gary Sherlock, president and publisher of the News, in a statement.
Simmons served as vice president of circulation for the Asbury Park Press before joining the News. Prior to that, he worked at the Green Bay Press-Gazette in Wisconsin and the New Haven Register in Connecticut.
"[Simmons] is passionate about our business and is committed to growing circulation sales and to providing the very best in customer service to our readers and business partners," Sherlock said in a statement.
Simmons replaces August Fields, who was named director of circulation and marketing at The New York Sun.
