By: E&P Staff Goss International Monday debuted a new jaw folder for its M-500 and M-600 presses that among other capabilities can produce two separate streams of four-page tabloid signatures from a single web.
The JF-55 double-aisle folder gives productivity options for presses that primarily produce A3-B3 tabloid format or smaller magazine formats.
This double-aisle model of the existing Goss JF-55 folder design can also produce standard 16-page magazine signatures, eight-page tabloid products and a range of additional product formats.
Goss design engineers have placed a second chopper module alongside the original in the JF-55 to produce tandem quarterfolds across the full web width up to a maximum width of 38 inches. Two tabloid fans are also positioned side-by-side to allow the double production of four-page tabloids.
The tape transfer mechanism has a foldaway design to allow what Goss says is easy access too the cylinders for routine maintenance.
The folder can handle runs up to 55,000 impressions per hour.
"Basically, what we can offer now is two folders in one, said Jean Fran?ois Robert, head of folder engineering at Goss' Montataire, France facility.
"Previously,? he continued in the prepared statement, ?to produce two eight-page magazine or two four-page tabloid streams would have required using two folders, or a cutting module delivering signatures open on three sides, making the finishing and/or distribution stage more tricky. With the JF-55 double-aisle folder, we simplify four-page tabloid and eight-page magazine production with a minimized investment and, at the same time, preserve the flexibility to produce higher-pagination signatures."
