By: E&P Staff Kyle Pope has been named editor of The New York Observer. He succeeds Tom McGeveran, who announced he is leaving at the end of the year.

Pope most recently served as deputy editor of now-defunct Conde Nast Portfolio magazine. He also worked as a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal and freelanced for the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.

New York Observer Owner and Publisher Jared Kushner said in a statement: "Kyle is an outstanding journalist -- an accomplished reporter and editor -- who also possesses an intimate knowledge of the media business. We're looking forward to his leadership in helping to shape and sharpen our product as we continue to drive this newspaper forward. We're thrilled to have him on board."
