By: Jennifer Saba The New York Daily News announced today that its circulation grew for the period of October through December.
Weekday sales rose 3.6%, to 763,974, compared to the same period last year. Saturday copies jumped 11.6%, to 592,683, and Sunday circ increased 9.8%, to 874,521.
These numbers were reported to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
Last October, the Daily News announced it was increasing the frequency of its Publishing Statements to a quarterly basis versus every six months. The move was made to benefit advertisers.
Heidi Chen, a spokeswoman for ABC, said that papers could elect to file more statements or, if they chose, go through more audits. About a half-dozen papers file interim Publisher's Statements. This is different from newspapers that have been censured by ABC and must submit to audits twice a year (as opposed to once a year).
The Daily News attributes the jump in circ to several factors including its coverage of the Bernard Kerik story, it's ?Citizenship Now? program which gives free legal advice, the Sunday magazines Life and 25hours, and the promotional game Scratch and Match.
